Technical / Engineering Manager (Solar & BESS)

Hybrid (UK only) • Contract

Job description

About the Role

Technical / Engineering Manager is a central, dynamic role in InRange's project development of UK solar and energy storage projects. As a core member of the team, you will lead the design, installation, and commissioning of rooftop solar PV and onsite Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

We're looking for an experienced candidate who will manage the engineering, integration, and performance of these systems, ensuring compliance with UK regulations, industry standards, and optimal operational efficiency.

This role demands a strong technical background in solar and storage technologies, leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design & Engineering:

    • Lead the design and engineering of rooftop solar PV/BESS systems, simulating and optimising system performance & grid interaction.

    • Oversee technical documentation, system specifications, and drawings.

    • Conduct site assessments to optimise system layout and performance.

  • Project Management:

    • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources from design through to commissioning.

    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during installation and operation.

    • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely delivery and compliance with health, safety, regulatory standards and industry codes.

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Serve as the technical point of contact for clients, delivering expert advice and updates, and assisting with the preparation of technical proposals, presentations, and project meetings.

  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

    • Oversee ongoing monitoring and maintenance of systems to ensure peak performance.

    • Analyse performance data and provide reports with actionable recommendations for optimisation.

You can expect:

  • A chance to utilise your strong understanding of solar and storage technologies to quickly solve complex engineering challenges and resolve emerging technical issues.

  • An opportunity to manage teams, foster collaboration, and ensure high-quality project delivery.

  • To communicate early and often both in writing and verbally, explaining complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.

  • A role that empowers you to stay updated with industry trends and regulatory changes.

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years' experience in designing, installing, and operating rooftop solar PV and/or BESS, with insight into their electrical engineering principles.

  • Proven experience managing engineering teams and large-scale projects.

  • Proficiency in design and simulation tools (PVSyst, SAM, AutoCAD).

  • Strong knowledge of UK energy regulations, grid connection codes (e.g., G99, G100), and industry standards.

Preferred but not required:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.

  • Professional certifications in renewable energy (e.g., CEng, PMP).

  • Knowledge of battery management systems and energy storage regulations.
